If you currently have the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), you may use that in lieu of purchasing the 2016 CBC because the two codes contain the same material and the same section numbers with respect to the determining earthquake loads.
Both the CBC and the IBC refer to the ASCE 7-10 for the determination of earthquake loads.
